- Copper Bisglycinate or Cupric Oxide
Copper works with iron to form red blood cells. It is a critical component of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ceruloplasmin. When high doses of zinc are supplemented, metallothionein is upregulated in the gut, which binds and traps copper, leading to a deficiency. Therefore, zinc and copper are often supplemented together in a standard 10:1 to 15:1 ratio.
